Paul Sharits 1943-1993
Paul Sharits was a leading exponent of American experimental film, and one of the “Structural film” artists as identified by P. Adams Sitney.
He studied painting and visual design at college, and began making films in the 1960s, also associating with members of the Fluxus group. Sharits went on to produce his best-known works that employ flicker effects, such as T,O,U,C,H,I,N,G and N:O:T:H:I:N:G. His extensive output explored constituent elements of film such as light and movement, and human perception.
